| A Brief Introduction
of RISC
Research Institute of Synthetic Crystals (formerly
known as Research Institute of Non-Metallic Minerals), founded in February
1963, is a high-tech enterprise engaged in researching, manufacturing
and developing of synthetic crystals and their products. RISC has been
changed into a scientific and technological enterprise since July 1, 1999
and merged into China National Non-Metallic Minerals Industry Corporation
(Group) owing to the economic reform in China.
The development strategy that RISC insists on is to take science and technology
as the guide, industry as the base, innovation as the motive force and
talent as the foundation. An enc ouragement
mechanism and model with our own features, full of competitive ability
and vigor will be gradually set up, and stronger ability of scientific
research and development and ability of achievements conversion and industrialization
have been formed. A versatile talent headed by an academician of Chinese
Academy of Engineering and the state level experts has been built up,
which provides a reliable guarantee for the healthy, continuous and rapid
development of RISC.
The Party and the State leaders, a former President Li Xiannian, Vice Premier
Gu Mu and Councilor Song Jian once came to inspect our institute and to
direct our work, which gave us a great concern and support for the development
of our institute. Scientific and technological personnel from generation
to generation in our institute have been striving not to fall short of
the people¡¯s expectations, undertook and completed more than 100 scientific
research projects, such as the State Key Scientific and Technological
Project, National Programme (863) Project, National Natural Science Funds
Project and National Defence War Industry Supplies Project. Growing technologies
and preparing technologies for nonlinear optical crystals (KN, KTP, LBO
and CLBO), laser crystals (Cr: LiSAF, Cr: LiCAF and Co: MgF2),
infrared optical crystals (CaF2, MgF2, ZnS, ZnSe,
¦Á-Al2O3 and ZnS/diamond, etc.), quartz crystal and
its products, scintillating crystals (NaI and CsI), birefringent crystal
(YVO4), CVD diamond film and its products, transparent ceramics (MgAl2O4
and YAG), glass ceramics and synthetic mica have all reached advanced
levels both at home and abroad. RISC was awarded nearly 100 prizes at
different levels in scientific researches, including 2 achievements gaining
the first National Science and Technology Progress awards, 5 achievements
the second National Science and Technology Progress awards and 2 achievements
the Dubang Science and Technology Innovation awards. And dozens of inventions
have been patented at home and abroad respectively and several thousand
articles were carried in domestic and foreign academic publications.
Our Institute lays stress on predominant subjects constructions, and such
4 predominant subjects as optoelectronic functional crystal materials,
superhard materials, advanced functional composite materials and synthetic
mica insulating materials have come into being. And main high-tech products
researched and developed are as follows:
Optoelectronic Functional Crystal Materials: Nonlinear
optical crystals, infrared crystals, laser crystals, scintillating crystals,
synthetic quartz crystal and its products.
Superhard Materials: Synthetic diamond and diamond tools,
diamond film and its products.
Advanced Functional Composite Materials: Superlow expansion
glass ceramics, transparent ceramics and AlN based high thermal conductivity
composite material and so on.
Synthetic Mica Materials: Mica plates, mica scraps, mica
papers, mica tapes and synthetic mica nacreous pigments, etc.
These products are widely used in such fields of military and civil as
aviation, spaceflight, weapons, nuclear industry and communication, including
the parts used in the Shenzhou Airship, Long March Carried Rocket and
East Wind Range of Missile Systems, which made contributions to the causes
of the developments of high and new technology and national defence of
our country.
Cooperating with some other strategic partners, up-to-date Bright Crystals
Technology INC. and Beijing Tiandi Orient Superhard Materials Co., Ltd.
have been jointly set up in recent years. Production capacity of synthetic
crystals products per year is up to a hundred million RMB, which pushed
forward the process of the industrialization of synthetic crystals of
our country.
Our institute has followed the new ideas of ¡°setting high demands for
the quality, providing qualified products for the customers, keeping forging
ahead continuously and creating the cream of the synthetic crystals¡± to
enlarge the domestic market and the world market. Since passing ISO9001
certification, the markets for the products of our institute have been
steadily expanded, the quality of products is obtained a guarantee, and
the products are sold to more than 30 countries and regions, such as USA,
UK, France and Japan.

of the generation after generation engaging in research work on synthetic
